Obituary for Edward J Weiss

In the midst of this county’s great depression, a great highlight emerged. Edward J Weiss was born on a Wednesday, December the seventeenth, 1930, to the loving parents of Charlotte and Harry Weiss. Although they are his legally documented birth parents, he would later find out that Harry was his uncle and Charlotte were actually his aunt, who was his real mother’s sister. All his “cousins” were actually his brothers and sisters.

Charlotte and Harry were older than the average parents yet they had no children. While Charlotte's sister Mary and her husband Solomon Hartstein had a dozen children. So before Mary gave birth, the two of them traveled upstate by night, to Utica New York from the city. It is there where they would change identities for a brief time during the birth of Edward.

Edward would eventually go to Hebrew school and was bar mitzvahed. He served honorably in the Korean War, obtaining the rank of corporal. He received his degree from the RCA Institute and worked at Bendix for over 30 years as an electronic technician. He literally helped put a man on the moon.

He married the beautiful Angela Conforti and they had five children together: Michael, Gerianne, Mary, Jamie and Paul. Even though the couple went through the hardship of losing their first born Michael as an infant, they successfully raised their other children.

At one point the children were in the custody of the State of New York due to complications. Through almost impossible odds of a man having custody of his children in the late 1960’s, he fought hard and succeeded so that his children were no longer at the mercy of the state.

After that, Angela stayed in New York and Edward and the children moved to New Jersey. Even though separated by time and distance he loved his wife from afar.

Edward retired as an electronic technician at the age of sixty and went on to be the president of Paterson Community Homes, where he helped other tenants.

He made the world a better place. He helped raise his grandson Nathan and lived together with his son Paul and family. His grandson Miles was born in England but he, Jamie (his mom), and Chris (his dad), eventually moved to New Jersey to be closer to Edward. He offered encouragement always, and was there for his Daughter Mary as not only a father but a mentor.

His life reflects the lyrics of his favorite song,

And I know if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lay peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest

- ‘The Impossible Dream’ from the movie the Man of La Mancha
