Dorothy Claire “Dottie” Cahill, age 81, of Middletown, NY, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2019, surrounded by her children.

Dottie was born on October 6, 1937, in Bronx, NY. She attended St. Benedict's Catholic School there and graduated from St. Vincent Ferrer High School in Manhattan. She raised her family in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx, where she was an active and devoted volunteer in the Locust Point Civic Association and the parish and school of St Frances de Chantal. She enjoyed many memorable days camping and skiing with family and friends, tailgating at West Point, and cooking the most delicious meals (a gift she inherited from her mom). After raising her children, she spent years working at the Lavelle School for the Blind and caring for her mother. A loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she made sure to be at every special family event, including Baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations, Graduations, and Weddings. In later years, her hobbies included reading, traveling, and watching Hallmark movies. She was called "Grandma" by all in Middletown and was well known for always having a smile on her face.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius Harrington and Mary (Norton/Harrington) Shagner, husband John J. Cahill, son Patrick Joseph, brother Frank Norton, and sister-in-law Antoinette Norton. She is survived by her children Dennis (Betsey) Cahill, Sheila Toohey, Christine McLaughlin, and Patricia (Gregory) Nurse; grandchildren James McNally, Kristen Cahill, James (Krystle) McLaughlin, Jacqueline (Eric) Manenkoff, Dennis Cahill, Jr., Jennifer McLaughlin, John McLaughlin, Amanda Cahill, Erin Cahill, Madison Nurse, Logan Nurse, and Alaric Nurse; great grandchildren Hayden McNally, Alexia McNally, Reaghan McLaughlin, Peyton McLaughlin, and Connor McLaughlin; and many relatives and friends.

Viewing will be held on Monday, February 4th, from 2:00 - 5:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. at Schuyler Hill Funeral Home, 3535 E. Tremont Ave., Bronx, NY 10465.
